The Moshville Times - Gig Review: Ad Infinitum / Skarlett Riot / Secret Rule

Similarly to Obelix falling into the magic potion, Ad Infinitum’s gig felt like falling into a massive cauldron of energy drinks: all three bands programmed that night delivered an incredible high energy and high quality show.

Secret Rule, an Italian symphonic metal band formed in 2014, set the tone. Combining a melodic voice and heavy riffs, they managed something quite remarkable: to rally up and incite the crowd to jump, clap, and sing along as soon as they took the stage.

Skarlett Riot was up next. I was very much looking forward to seeing them live again, as I caught them last year at the Garage, Glasgow, when they opened for Lord of the Lost. The band constantly balances opposites between melodic and heavy, clean and gritty. They required constant participation from the audience, who again were very prompt to join in, and even when they slowed down their set with more of a ballad, the mood and energy stayed up.

It was the first time in Scotland for Ad Infinitum. The front row was lined up with die-hard fans, all sporting coordinated merch, and honestly, they were one of the reasons why this gig was so special. Ad Infinitum have been around since 2018, and started off as Melissa Bonny’s solo project while she was still with Rage of Light. Bonny is one of the most acclaimed metal singers and it was obvious why: she has an incredible range, from melodic to deep guttural singing, she can do it all, and with an incredible stage presence on top of it. Currently, Ad Infinitum are on their last tour for 2026, and they definitely leave their fans with a bang.

Overall, it was a wonderful, powerful, and energetic evening from start to finish. The line-up was very coherent, all three bands blended melodic and heavy metal, however with strong and unique musical signatures. It was pure metal bliss.
