The Moshville Times - The Virginmarys share atmospheric new video for “My Nettle”

Macclesfield alternative rock duo The Virginmarys have premiered the official music video for “My Nettle”, a standout track taken from their acclaimed album Beyond The House Of Fires. Alongside the video premiere, the band have opened pre-orders for a collection of exclusive merchandise and vinyl bundles via their official store.

Diverging from their traditional wall-of-fuzz distortion, “My Nettle” highlights dreamlike, hypnotic keys and a more vulnerable sonic landscape. Frontman Ally Dickaty explains the inspiration behind the track: “This is one of the prettiest sounding songs on the album and lends itself really well to piano and strings. I’ve always been a big fan of Kate Bush’s Hounds Of Love, and some of the gentle piano on this reminds me a little of that. We’ve always been driven by strong melodies, but with this particular song, arrangement, and instrumentation, it feels like the closest the band has ever come to creating something that sounds like a pop hit. I wrote ‘My Nettle’ about one of my favourite writers, Amelia Vandergast. She has both a beautiful and sharp way with words, always holding truth above trends and never suffering fools gladly.”

The record serves as a companion piece to their 2024 full-length album, offering stripped-back, emotionally raw interpretations. We were big fans of the record, noting its complex and vulnerable arrangements in our review of Beyond The House Of Fires earlier this year. The record has picked up widespread industry acclaim, with ERB Magazine calling it “nothing short of a masterpiece” and Classic Rock Magazine describing it as a “forlorn gem”.

Following a successful acoustic run alongside special guests IDESTROY, the duo are turning their attention to a packed summer live schedule across the UK, including a series of festival slots and an outdoor castle performance.
