The blue-haired boys are back. Waterparks have finally pulled back the curtain on their sixth studio album, Jinx, which is set to hit the shelves on 24th July via BMG. To get the hype train moving, the band have shared their brand-new single, “Prowler”, and it sounds like things got pretty heavy behind the scenes during the writing process.
Frontman Awsten Knight hasn’t shied away from the fact that the track was born out of a period of total isolation. After splitting from their old label and almost their entire team, Awsten felt like the floor was falling out from under him. “This song is a reflection of the extremely concentrated sadness I felt over those months while trying to rebuild my world,” he says. It’s a bit of a deep dive into existential dread and the weird cost of being in the public eye, but let’s be honest, that’s where the best songs usually come from.
The new record isn’t just a solo vent session, though. The band have roped in an absolute belter of a guest list, including Mark Hoppus of blink-182, the legendary Danny Elfman, Eric Nally from Foxy Shazam, and Dillon Francis. It’s a massive mix of talent that suggests Jinx is going to be one of their most ambitious releases to date.
