The queen of Doom Trap, Mimi Barks, has officially kicked off her next chapter with the release of her new single and video, “Dreamstate Of Hell”. Blending metal intensity with industrial grit and trap influences, the track is a raw and deeply personal statement on the current state of the world.
Co-written and produced by Ruben Cardenas (SMLE) and mixed by Owen Claxton, who worked on Mimi’s debut album This Is Doom Trap, the song explores the idea of heaven and hell as conscious states we create in the present. “Sometimes it feels like the world is slipping into a dreamstate of hell and most people do not even realise they are asleep inside it,” Mimi shares. “The real question is what you choose to feed: the poison or the light”.
The accompanying music video was shot in Mimi’s new home of Downtown Los Angeles. Directed and filmed by Death Tour vocalist Demi Yo’Ko, the visuals use late-night imagery and fire to mirror the unrest at the track’s core. You can watch the full video below.
