Montreal progressive rock powerhouse Karcius have just unveiled the official video for their new single “Rise”. The track serves as the third and final teaser before the band drop their highly anticipated seventh studio album, Black Soul Sickness, on 8th May.
The new record marks the conclusion of a conceptual trilogy that began with 2018’s The Fold and continued through the critically acclaimed Grey White Silver Yellow & Gold in 2022. Produced by the band themselves and mixed by guitarist Simon L’Espérance, “Rise” showcases the group’s signature blend of cinematic scope, metal intensity, and the emotional weight of post-rock.
The song is a sprawling seven-minute journey that balances technical mastery with raw feeling. Lyrically, the track mirrors the album’s broader themes of loss, obsession, and rebirth. Vocalist Sylvain Auclair delivers a powerful performance that shifts from intimate verses to soaring, anthemic moments that feel both massive and deeply personal. You can check out the haunting visualizer for the track below.
Fans of Porcupine Tree, Opeth, or Big Wreck will find plenty to get their teeth into here. Every note feels deliberate, from shimmering vocal harmonies to thunderous rhythmic pulses that drive the track’s heavier sections. It’s a testament to the chemistry between Auclair, L’Espérance, keyboardist Sébastien Cloutier, and drummer Thomas Brodeur.
Black Soul Sickness will be available on vinyl, CD, and digital formats. With over two decades of evolution under their belts and a reputation for top-tier live shows across Europe and North America, Karcius continue to prove they are one of the most uncompromising forces in modern prog. Pre-orders are open now via the band’s Bandcamp page.
