Atavistia head for the horizon with new single/video “To A New World”

Vancouver’s Atavistia have never been a band to stay in one lane, and their latest single “To A New World” proves they’re still moving forward. It’s the first taste of their upcoming full-length, Old Gods Awaken, which is due to land on 15th May 2026 via Blood Blast Distribution. If you’ve followed the lads since their debut, you’ll know they usually lean into those massive, epic soundscapes, but this new one feels a bit more direct.

The track kicks off with a tribal-sounding intro, heavy on the folk instruments and layered chants, before dropping into a melody that’ll likely get stuck in your head for days. It’s got a bit of a simpler structure than some of their previous sprawling epics, but there’s still plenty going on under the hood. The band says the song is all about change and growth, which makes sense given the shift in their sound lately.

The new record, Old Gods Awaken, is shaping up to be their most folk-heavy work yet. They’ve gone for shorter, catchier tunes this time around, though the mix of melodic death and black metal that fans of Wintersun or Ensiferum dig is still very much at the core. It’s inspired by the cold landscapes of their Canadian home and ancient Norse culture, so expect plenty of atmosphere alongside the riffs.

Since forming in 2017, the group has been pretty prolific, and they’ve already done the rounds in Europe twice supporting the likes of Skálmöld and Seven Spires. If you’re into music that balances a bit of beauty with a massive wall of sound, this release should be on your radar. You can check out the track listing for the new record below.
