White Skies drop new single / video “88 Crash” ahead of upcoming album

The lads in White Skies are back with a brand new track, “88 Crash”, giving us another taste of what’s to come from their second studio outing. It’s the second single to be lifted from their upcoming record, Shouting at the Hurricane, which is set to land on 29th May via Conquest Music.

If you’re a fan of hard rock that doesn’t skimp on the melody, this one’s right up your street. It’s got that classic 80s swagger we all love but with a modern punch that keeps it feeling fresh. The band have shifted gears a bit since their debut, Black Tide, pushing the guitars right to the front. It’s less of the polite AOR and more of a gritty, anthemic sound that’ll have you humming the chorus for days.

There’s a funny story behind the name, too. Guitarist Ray Callcut sent the demo over to frontman Mick White with the working title “88 Crash” – 88 being the BPM and “Crash” referring to the cymbals. Mick loved the vibe so much he just ran with it, penned some lyrics about the wild nights in Soho and the Sunset Strip, and a belter was born.

To go along with the tune, they’ve released a stripped-back, black-and-white performance video directed by Sam Cowell. It’s simple, effective, and shows a band that’s clearly comfortable in their own skin. Since they first hit the scene in late 2022, they’ve been busy on the road supporting the likes of FM and TEN, so they know exactly how to deliver the goods live.
