Swedish doom masters Monolord announce new album Neverending

It’s been five years since we last had a full-length fix from Monolord, but the wait is almost over. The Gothenburg trio have announced that their latest record, Neverending, will be dropping on 29th May 2026 via Relapse Records.

For this outing, the lads headed over to Ashland, Oregon, to work with the legendary Sylvia Massy. If her name sounds familiar, it’s because she’s the desk wizard behind massive records from the likes of Tool, System of a Down, and Johnny Cash. It sounds like she really put the work in, too; vocalist and guitarist Thomas Jäger revealed that Massy asked for every riff and stray idea the band had ever written – even stuff from a decade ago – before picking the bones out of it to find the best material for the new album.

Out of twelve rehearsed tracks, eight made the final cut. According to Jäger, it’s not strictly a “doom” album in the traditional sense, but more of a mix between their classic crushing sound and something fresh. Drummer Esben Willems reckons the result is the “essence” of everything they’ve done since forming back in 2013, and if their track record is anything to go by, it’s going to be a belter.

You can get a taste of what’s coming right now with the new single “You Bastard”. It’s got a propulsive groove that shows off that slight shift in direction, and you can check out the video (filmed by James Rexroad during the recording sessions) below. The album also features a guest appearance from Jörgen Sandström (ex-Entombed) on the closing track “It’s Neverending”.

The band are heading out on a massive run of dates across the US and Europe to support the release. While there aren’t any UK headline dates on this specific list just yet, they are no strangers to these shores, having been previously announced for slots like Desertfest London back in 2024. Keep your eyes peeled for more news on that front.
