The Moshville Times - Epica drop live version of “Eye of the Storm” from sold-out Amsterdam show

Symphonic metal titans Epica have treated us to a bit of a belter today. They’ve just unveiled an electrifying live version of “Eye of the Storm”, a standout track from their latest studio record, Aspiral. This version, dubbed “Eye of the Storm (Live At The Ziggo Dome)”, was captured just last month during the band’s massive headline show in Amsterdam. Playing to a sold-out crowd of 10,000 fans is no small feat, and judging by the video, the atmosphere was absolutely cracking. The video is below or you can stream the track as well.

The release is perfectly timed, as the band are currently out on the second leg of “The Arcane Dimensions Tour”. While the current run of dates is keeping them busy across mainland Europe, we’re chuffed that we managed to catch the first leg of the tour right here in the UK. We actually witnessed the spectacle at the Glasgow show in January, and it was a proper masterclass in symphonic metal.

The new album Aspiral is a bit of a deep dive into the work of Polish sculptor Stanisław Szukalski. Bassist Rob van der Loo apparently got proper inspired by a documentary about him during lockdown and started writing what was meant to be an instrumental soundtrack. Eventually, the whole thing morphed into the ninth Epica record. It’s a bit more “metal-focused” than some of their older stuff, but still has all the orchestral grandiosity you’d expect. If you haven’t checked it out yet, it’s well worth a spin.

The band are in fine form at the moment, even getting a cheeky invite from Metallica to join them on some dates last year. It’s safe to say they’ve still got plenty in the tank after twenty years, and this latest live clip proves they are still one of the best in the business when it comes to puting on a show.
