Black Stone Cherry release new EP team up with charity Sands for single, and announce massive UK and Ireland tour

The Kentucky boys in Black Stone Cherry are back with a brand new 7-track EP titled Celebrate, out now via Mascot Records. Along with the release, the band have shared a moving new video for their latest single, “Deep”.

The track is a proper heart-on-sleeve moment for the band, dealing with the heavy subject of infertility and miscarriage. Guitarist Ben Wells opened up about the personal inspiration behind the song, explaining that he and his wife struggled for over a decade before facing the tragedy of a miscarriage. He wrote the lyrics as a way to process that darkness, hoping it might offer some comfort to others in the same boat. To help raise awareness, the band have teamed up with Sands, a brilliant UK charity that supports bereaved families and works to save babies’ lives.

Sands is the UK’s leading pregnancy and baby loss charity. They are there to support everyone touched by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby. Sands offers many types of support, including a free, confidential telephone helpline, email support, and online group sessions.

Ben Wells’ statement in full:

“Deep” is a very personal song. Without sugar coating it, my wife and I have struggled with infertility for over a decade. Anyone that has been through that journey knows that it can be an absolutely helpless feeling and I sympathise with them beyond measure. Just as we were coming to peace with the fact that it wasn’t in the cards for us to be parents, we got pregnant during the writing session for this EP. However, it sadly led to a miscarriage which led to one of the darkest and lowest points we had experienced together. I usually keep things close to the chest when it comes to personal matters, but this time I felt I had to get it out and I’m so thankful for faith, love, and music in that time. I was searching for a song that said what we were feeling in those moments but I couldn’t find it until God allowed me to let these lyrics flow out. Through it all, we continued to love and lift each other up and I’m so thankful for that. I’m so thankful that our band crafted this song and I just know in my heart it will help others out there who also feel that life can sometimes be too Deep.

To be honest, I never imagined I would be writing something like this but in an effort to be fully transparent, just like our song ‘Deep’, here we are and I’m truly thankful that an organisation like Sands exists to help heal and guide those of us who have experienced something tragic like this. We are thankful for charities like Sands who can assist in being a lighthouse in a storm and helping direct our hearts to a healing place. I personally believe that God has a plan for all of us and while we may not always understand it, we have to trust it and know that Joy will be there on the other side of any dark time life gives us.

Musically, Celebrate offers a bit of everything. You’ve got the grunge-heavy vibes of “I’m Fine” (which has a definite Nirvana edge to it) sitting alongside the emotional weight of “Deep”. There is even a cracking cover of the Simple Minds classic “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”, featuring a guest spot from their long-time mate Tyler Connolly of Theory Of A Deadman.

If new music wasn’t enough, the guys are heading across the pond for a huge “An Evening With” tour later this year. These shows are going to be special; they are playing two separate sets, including their 2006 self-titled debut album in full to celebrate its 20th anniversary. We’ve seen these lads many times over the years, and they always put on a belter of a show. We last caught up with the band for a chat a few years back – read our full interview with Ben Wells here.

Most of the dates are already sold out, so you’ll need to move fast if you want to grab the remaining tickets for the London or Irish shows.
