Two-time Grammy winner Tyler Bryant has just unleashed his fifth solo single, “Screwed & Tattooed”, and it’s a proper grit-under-the-fingernails blues belter. Accompanying the track is a brand-new music video that captures the same spontaneous energy the song was born from.
For Bryant, this track is all about the magic of his own studio space, Crosstie Recordings. In an age where AI is starting to creep into every corner of the industry, Tyler is doubling down on authenticity. “Screwed & Tattooed” wasn’t slaved over for weeks; it was “laughed into existence” during a casual jam session with a literal hero of his, Rodney Crowell. Tyler had been producing Crowell’s latest record, Airline Highway, and the pair found themselves messing about with acoustic guitars at the end of a session.
“It’s not every day that you get to make up a tune with a hero,” Tyler says. “As a Texan, I grew up on Rodney Crowell’s records. I had no idea then that, 19 years after meeting him as a teenager, I’d be producing an album for him.” When Tyler started riding a thumb-line on his old Kalamazoo acoustic, Rodney started spitting out lyrics, and the track was born. The very next afternoon, Tyler’s mates came over to jam, and they had the whole thing recorded in less than an hour. It’s about as real as it gets.
We’ve been keeping a close eye on Tyler’s solo journey here at Moshville Times, recently covering his previous singles “Mama Like To Rock” and the soulful “Planted”. While he’s still the fiery frontman of Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown, this solo chapter is letting him follow his gut in a way that feels completely unfiltered and independent.
The new single “Screwed & Tattooed” is available now on all the usual digital platforms. If you’re a fan of low-down, dirty blues played with heart and zero artificial additives, this is the one for you.
