Manchester’s own industrial extreme metal terrorists, The Machinist, (who we talked to before Bloodstock 2025) have just unleashed a grimy new video for “The Anthropic Mistake”. It’s one of the stand-out, most harrowing tracks from their second album, Contempt For Life, which has been picking up serious acclaim since it landed via InViMa Records last year.
The video itself is a no-frills, starkly stripped-back performance capture. Staying true to the band’s DIY roots, the lads created it entirely internally, ensuring no flashy effects or corporate gloss get in the way of their message. It’s raw, it’s ugly, and it perfectly matches the intensity of their sound.
Formed in 2020, The Machinist have quickly earned a reputation for playing a particularly nasty flavour of industrial metal. If you’re a fan of the sonic assault provided by the likes of Anaal Nathrakh or The Berzerker, these guys are right up your street. Following their debut I Am Void, the new record Contempt For Life dives headfirst into the bleakness of the modern world, tackling everything from the greed of the elite to the looming ecological disasters we’re all seemingly happy to ignore.
The band – featuring John Thompson on vocals and keys, Tobias Gray on lead guitar, and George Kal on rhythm guitar – aren’t interested in whether humanity can be saved. Instead, they’re documenting just how ugly the future is going to get. After a massive 2025 that saw them crushing stages at Bloodstock, this new video proves they aren’t slowing down their assault on the senses anytime soon.
