The Moshville Times - El Muerto drops grim new video for “Lich King”

The Netherlands-based one-man black/death metal project El Muerto has just unleashed the official video for “Lich King”. The track is a standout from the debut EP, Lost and Amsterdamned, and it’s a proper march into the void. Think oppressive riffing, funereal dread, and a vocal performance that sounds like someone being dragged through the dirt – exactly what we want on a Tuesday night.

El Muerto is the alter ego of Ricardo Botello, a multi-instrumentalist who has spent time in the metal scenes of Mexico and Australia before anchoring himself in the Dutch landscape. This project was born out of a period of intense personal crisis; originally intended as a final message, the record has instead become a testament to survival. It’s a raw exorcism of depression and trauma, but as Botello puts it, it’s no longer a goodbye – it’s proof that something can survive in the shadows.

The sound on Lost and Amsterdamned is a fiercely collaborative effort, featuring guests from acts like Norse and Adarrak. Musically, it’s a cocktail of frostbitten Immortal-style riffs, the grim atmosphere of Darkthrone, and some of the more progressive shadows you’d find in Opeth or Emperor. To top it off, the EP was mixed by the legendary Tomas Skogsberg at Sunlight Studios in Sweden, so you know the production has that classic, gritty bite without losing any of the cinematic scope.
