Brazilian metal heavyweights Torture Squad have just unleashed a cracking new video for their track “Buried Alive”, and it features none other than Sepultura legend Andreas Kisser. The video dropped last weekend, and if you’re a fan of crossover thrash or just enjoy seeing heavy music in its natural habitat, this one’s for you.
Taken from their 2023 album Devilish, “Buried Alive” is a proper rager that leans heavily into the band’s hardcore influences. To match that energy, the video was shot at Pista de Skate da Saúde, a legendary skate park in São Paulo. It’s a location that’s been a hub for underground culture since the 90s, making it the perfect backdrop for a track that explores the raw connection between skateboarding and heavy metal.
While the video is full of high-energy skating and headbanging, the song itself comes from a much darker place. Vocalist Mayara Puertas opens up about the intense personal struggle behind the lyrics:
“I wrote the lyrics to ‘Buried Alive’ during a panic attack episode, so it became a personal release. People often minimize the suffering of those dealing with mental health issues, believing that medication alone is enough, or that it’s a lack of effort. It’s a constant struggle, and this song reflects what it was like to go through all of that.”
For drummer and founder Amílcar Christófaro, the video was a chance to tick something off the bucket list. “I remember watching Suicidal Tendencies videos and dreaming of making a Torture Squad video with the same stuff… skateboarders, street life,” he says. “This is the perfect moment because, in addition to May’s powerful message, there’s the more than special participation of Andreas Kisser.”
Torture Squad are currently riding high after a massive run of dates, including a record-breaking fourth appearance at Wacken Open Air back in 2025. You can check out the video below, and if you haven’t given Devilish a spin yet, it’s out now via Time To Kill Records.
