The Moshville Times - Temple of Void announce new album “The Crawl” and stream title track video

Critically acclaimed death metal outfit Temple of Void are gearing up to unleash their fifth full-length record. It’s titled The Crawl and it’s landing on March 6, 2026, through the good folks at Relapse Records.

To get things moving, the band have dropped the music video for the title track. It was directed by The C.O.I.N., who you might know from their work with Incantation and Gruesome. It gives a good indication of where the band’s head is at for this cycle, and you can check it out below.

Things have shifted a bit in the Temple of Void camp since their last outing, 2022’s Summoning the Slayer. They are operating as a quartet these days, featuring guitarist Alex Awn, drummer Jason Pearce, vocalist/guitarist Mike Erdody, and bassist Justin Malek. According to the band, they’ve stopped worrying quite so much about fitting neatly into the “death-doom” box.

Awn reckons that while that specific sound was their anchor in the early days, they didn’t feel the need to tick specific genre boxes this time around. He says they simply “wrote a heavy-ass record – let the chips fall where they may.”

That new approach sees the Michigan natives weaving in some grunge and post-punk influences alongside the usual brutality. To capture this rawer, more “human” vibe, they trekked out to Salem, MA to record at GodCity Studio with Kurt Ballou (Converge, High On Fire) and Zach Weeks. It was apparently a freezing week in January, which probably helped with the bleak atmosphere. Brad Boatright handled the mastering, so you know it’s going to sound massive.

Lyrically, Erdody is diving into the darker side of the human condition—choices, consequences, and a bit of psychological horror. One track, “The Twin Stranger”, deals with doppelgangers, while “Godless Cynic” nods to sci-fi legend Harlan Ellison.
