Re:O release video for new single “Reverie”

Maidenhead’s own J-pop and metal fusion outfit, Re:O, have kicked off the new year with their 10th single, “Reverie”, which was released yesterday (21st January). This track marks a significant return to roots for the band, being their first song written entirely in Japanese since 2021. To coincide with the release, the band have also shared a video for the track which you can check out below.

Formed in 2020 by Rio Suyama as a solo project in Saitama, Japan, Re:O has since evolved into a full band based in Berkshire. The current lineup features Suyama on vocals and synth, joined by James Wright on bass, James ‘J’ Stevens on drums, and the recent addition of Alex Carli on guitar. They’ve been busy making a name for themselves in the UK scene, with a sold-out show at The Spice of Life in Soho last August and airplay on BBC Introducing.

“Reverie” blends the band’s signature electronic elements with a more raw, guitar-driven sound. The track is described as having a mix of “powerful, raw energy” and “comforting overtones,” focusing on the interplay between Carli’s guitar riffs and Suyama’s synth work.

Lyrically, the song tackles the bittersweet feeling of missing someone after they’re gone. It uses the metaphor of falling snow—beautiful but fragile and destined to melt—to represent the fleeting nature of human connections. However, it’s not all doom and gloom; the track is fundamentally about the permanence of memories and wishing the best for those who have moved on from our lives. As the band puts it, the song carries the hope that “those that we shared these memories with are safe, well and thriving”.

Fans of the band’s previous singles like “Ronin” and “Crimson Desire” can expect the same hypnotic and exquisite vocals that have defined Re:O’s futuristic sound so far.
