It’s been seven long years since we last heard from Florida death metal legends Monstrosity, but they are finally back. The band have announced that their new album, Screams From Beneath The Surface, will be released on March 13th via Metal Blade Records.
To get things moving, the band have dropped the first single, “The Colossal Rage”. It’s a proper bulldozer of a track—straight to the point, heavy on the riffs, and featuring some absolute monster vocals from new frontman Ed Webb (ex-Massacre). If you like your death metal with a bit of “ignore the brakes” energy, this one is for you.
The new lineup is looking formidable. Alongside founder and drummer Lee Harrison and long-time guitarist Matt Barnes, the band welcomes back original bassist Mark Van Erp. With Webb on the mic, the band sounds reinvigorated. Harrison and Barnes collaborated on the new single, and it sounds like they’ve hit a sweet spot between technical precision and raw aggression.
The album was recorded across a couple of legendary spots: drums, bass and mixing were handled at Audiohammer Studios with Jason Suecof, while vocals and guitars were done at the iconic Morrisound Studios with Jim Morris. That’s a serious pedigree for any death metal record. The band are also keen to point out that the cover art, created by Timbul Cahyono, is a wholly organic creation – no AI rubbish here, just proper art.
Screams From Beneath The Surface is available to pre-order now via Eyesore Merch and other outlets.
