It’s been a quiet patch for Slovakian tech-death merchants Holotropic, but they’ve finally broken the silence. The band have just unleashed a brand new single, the stylised “In_dividual”. It serves as the opening chapter of a three-part title track from their upcoming release, Individual.
Musically, it sounds like they haven’t lost their touch. It’s that familiar collision of technical and progressive death metal that put them on the map in the first place. They’ve kept those signature oriental-style melodies in there too, woven into a structure that keeps shifting gears. If you like your metal complex and evolving, this is probably right up your street. The rest of the track—and the full record—is scheduled to drop late this coming February.
This release is a pretty big deal for the lads as it’s their first studio output since Permeate. That record was a proper belter, even snagging a nomination for the Radio_Head Awards in the Hard & Heavy category. This new material also marks the debut of vocalist Vladimír Mikuláš. It’s the first time punters will get to hear him fronting the band, and by all accounts, he’s brought some fresh elements to the Holotropic sound.
To go with the tune, there’s a sensory-overload of a video created by nik to. On the technical side of things, recording and production were handled by Jakub Hríbik at PULP Studio, with Alexandr Vatagin on mastering duties. The project also got a bit of backing from the Slovak Arts Council, which is always nice to see.
