Austrian blackened death metal outfit Graufar are kicking off 2026 with a serious bang, dropping the title track from their upcoming album Via Necropolis. The single, which hits streaming platforms today (January 2nd), is accompanied by a music video that captures the band in their element… on stage.
The video itself is a bit of a treat for live music fans, featuring footage stitched together from nine different shows. This includes clips from their appearance at Wacken Open Air, which is no small feat. For those out of the loop, the band had a storming 2024, winning the Wacken Metal Battle Austria before going on to secure a very respectable ninth place in the international finals at the festival itself. Not bad for a band that only formed in Linz back in 2020.
This new track follows their well-received debut Scordalus, which landed in April 2024. If the previous record is anything to go by, we can expect Via Necropolis to be a heavy slab of noise. The band describes the new material as a mix of vicious extremity and speedy grooves, tackling cheerful subjects like social criticism, the darker side of human nature, and death. It’s proper heavy stuff that sits somewhere between the likes of Necrophobic, Watain, and Dark Fortress.
The full album, Via Necropolis, is slated for release on March 20th, 2026. In the meantime, you can check out the video for the title track below and get a feel for what the guys bring to the stage.
