Italian symphonic modern metal outfit Secret Rule are signing off for the year in style. The band have just released a new music video for “Lost In Paradise”, the latest track to be lifted from their tenth studio album, X.
The album itself landed back in October, but this new single slows the pace down a notch. It’s a melancholic ballad that shifts the focus from the heavier themes of the record to something a bit more introspective. It features a guest appearance from Marco Pastorino (Temperance/Serenity), who joins vocalist Angela Di Vincenzo and guitarist Andy Menario for a triple-vocal performance.
According to the band, the track is about the “quiet realization that something once deeply familiar has been lost” but finding the strength to carry on regardless. Angela describes it as transforming the pain of loss into “defiant hope”, which sounds like a decent message to take into the new year. Musically, it’s less about the riffs and more about the atmosphere, with the three vocalists adding plenty of layers to the sound.
