If you’ve been following the UK rock scene, you likely know Jack Flint from his work with Sea Gods. But the singer and guitarist has decided to step out of the band dynamic for a bit, unleashing his debut solo single “Dirty Road”. The track landed on November 7th and sees Flint exploring a grittier, moodier sound than fans of his main outfit might expect.
While Sea Gods tend to bring the upbeat energy, “Dirty Road” takes a turn into the shadows. Recorded at The Grand Studios in Clitheroe, the track is a proper organic rock anthem, built on a foundation of emotional extremes. Flint reckons there’s a certain “haunting beauty” in decay, and he’s tried to capture that feeling here. It’s a song about finding the rapture in those intense moments, whether they’re good or bad.
He hasn’t gone completely rogue, mind you. He’s brought his Sea Gods bandmate Carl Donoghue along to handle the drums, while Flint himself took care of everything else—vocals, guitars, and bass. The production duties were handled by Joshua Haworth, with mastering by Dave Draper, keeping the sound punchy and raw.
There’s a cracking bit of history behind the gear on this one, too. The track features a Gibson Firebird that’s seen more action than most musicians. The guitar was rescued from a house fire that nearly cost Flint his arm, leaving it battle-scarred but still singing. In a weird twist of fate, it turns out the axe was originally bought from a shop in Doncaster owned by Yungblud’s family. You can’t make that sort of thing up.
Driven by vintage Vox AC30s and a love for the classics—think The Clash, The Stones, and a bit of Black Sabbath heft—”Dirty Road” is a solid statement of intent from Flint. It’s out now, so if you fancy something with a bit more bite to get you through the winter months, give it a spin.
