Royal Republic have presented the “grand and glorious finale” to The Blastbeaters saga with their latest release: an over-the-top cover of the Village People classic, “Go West”.
In typical Royal Republic fashion, the band has transformed the disco anthem into what they describe as a “towering power ballad”. The new arrangement features a sweeping string section and is described by the band as a “slow dance soaked in champagne, dipped in glitter, and served with just the right amount of irony.”
The new single puts the “final diamond-studded stamp” on The Blastbeaters EP. This project, which the band claims was “never meant to exist”, evolved into a full-blown “celebration of musical chaos”.
The Blastbeaters were introduced as a fictitious Black Metal act that went “wildly off the rails”, leading them to re-imagine pop classics. Previous tracks from the EP included covers of “Venus“, “I’m So Excited”, and “Stayin’ Alive”, all delivered with both sincerity and absurdity.
A music video for “Go West” is set to premiere today (November 7th) at 4:00 PM GMT on the band’s official YouTube channel (scroll down and it’ll be playing at the bottom of this article!). This video will serve as the grand finale of the entire storyline, promising to tie together months of “unhinged storytelling” and “questionable decisions”. Fans are told to expect “answers, explosions, and more hairspray than anyone asked for.”
With “Go West”, Royal Republic are officially bidding farewell to The Blastbeaters, closing a chapter that the band says managed to blend “Black Metal, pop nostalgia, and sheer theatrical nonsense into one glittering fever dream.”
