After a seven-year absence, Marmozets have announced their long-awaited return. The Bingley-based band has released a brand new track, “A Kiss From A Mother”, which is out today (November 5th) via Nettwerk Music Group. Alongside the new music, the band has confirmed an extensive run of UK “underplay” shows scheduled to begin this December.
The Yorkshire band, originally formed by siblings, burst onto the scene as teenagers. Their early days were defined by a dynamic energy and a knack for fusing sharp musicianship with huge, hook-filled melodies, often playing in clubs they were technically too young to enter. This early momentum led to a record deal and two critically acclaimed albums, The Weird and Wonderful Marmozets and Knowing What You Know Now, which saw them touring globally.
The band then entered a period of apparent disappearance. During this hiatus, internal changes were taking place; vocalist Becca Macintyre and guitarist Jack Bottomley became parents (and later married). An impromptu jam session sparked the creation of new material. The band reformed with Josh Macintyre and Sam Macintyre (who switched from guitar to bass following the amicable departure of Will Bottomley). Marmozets returned to the studio with producers Jonathan Gilmore (Biffy Clyro, Nothing But Thieves) and Andy Hawkins, reportedly finding a new level of creativity and musicianship.
The new single, “A Kiss From A Mother”, serves as a powerful statement of intent. It channels the band’s signature ferocity into a heavy yet melodic track. The song also showcases a creative streak, described as embracing “mariachi-metal mayhem” inspired by their love of The Cramps, all driven by Becca Macintyre’s soaring “blood-letting” vocals, which were reportedly captured in just three takes.
Vocalist Becca Macintyre says of the track: “The message of the song is to make sure you listen, rather than just shoot straight back. Probably everyone can relate to the idea of not letting some advice go in one ear and out the other, let it actually immerse in you. As for my voice, that’s just my spirit coming out! I’m not playing a character; I’m giving it all that I’ve got.”
The newly announced tour dates mark the band’s first headline shows since 2018. Tickets for the run of intimate “underplay” shows go on sale this Friday, November 7th, at 9 am.
