French experimental rock trio Lingus have unveiled a brand new music video for their latest single, “Le Cadran”. The track is taken from their newly released EP, La Fenêtre (“The Window”), which is described as a musical triptych exploring themes of welcome, openness, and the slowing down of time. The video goes live at 5pm today in the UK! Scroll down and set a reminder.
Hailing from Lyon, Lingus have spent years cultivating a sound that they refer to as a “joyful exploration”. Operating as a tight-knit three-piece, they meticulously assemble multiple layers of sound to create relief-filled sonic landscapes. Their music is often characterised by incongruous meetings between different aesthetics, combining the orchestral thickness of post-rock with the visceral energy of heavy riffs. For Lingus, songwriting is akin to storytelling, often resulting in tracks that bifurcate, twist, and embrace the unexpected rather than following a traditional verse-chorus structure.
The new single, “Le Cadran”, dives deep into the band’s philosophical side. It addresses the frantic pace of modern life and the human obsession with controlling every second. Speaking about the concept behind the track, vocalist and guitarist Mathias explains:
“This track explores our crazy relationship with time and our incessant quest for optimisation, with this illusion of being able to master it. Everything is moving too fast, and it is becoming increasingly urgent to slow down.”
Following two initial EPs in 2016 and 2018, and their full-length album Reconnaissance in 2022, La Fenêtre marks the next step in the band’s evolution. It represents a “spatial quest” for the group, daring listeners to stop watching the clock and start feeling the moment.
The video for “Le Cadran” is available to watch shortly (or “now” if it’s after 5pm!), offering a glimpse into the band’s unique visual imagination.
