Scarborough rockers This House We Built have unveiled their potent new single, “Broken Dreams,” accompanied by a compelling music video. This track marks the third single to be lifted from their highly anticipated second album, Get Out Of The Rain, which is scheduled for release on 21st November.
Frontman Scott Wardell elaborated on the video’s powerful narrative, stating, “The concept for the video was basically about a man being trapped in an abusive relationship with a woman and struggling to find a way out, eventually breaking free from the chains that hold him and escaping from the wrath of mind bullets and physical abuse.” The visual storytelling aims to resonate with viewers, portraying a struggle for freedom and eventual liberation from oppressive circumstances.
The band’s guitarist, Andy Jackson, who also takes on lead vocals for “Broken Dreams,” shed light on the song’s origins. “I was just noodling away when the main riff came to me, and I thought that’s chunky,” Jackson recalled. “I immediately started to record it, so I didn’t forget it and then it just progressed from there with the input from the rest of the lads.” He added that he envisioned the lyrics to be more aggressive than their previous work, a goal he believes was achieved with the encouragement of Dave Boothroyd and Scott during the studio sessions. “The song’s basically about being trapped in a relationship then having the strength in the end to break free,” he summarised, echoing the thematic core of the music video.
Speaking further about the upcoming album, Scott Wardell expressed the band’s excitement: “Get Out Of The Rain has now been mastered and is being pressed to vinyl and CD as we speak. We’ve included plenty of extras – stories of how the songs came together, the creative process, and behind-the-scenes moments in the studio. We wanted to give our loyal fans something really special with this record. The support we’ve had over the past couple of years has been incredible, and thanks to our crowdfunding campaign, this album truly belongs to the fans who have believed in us and become part of the spirit of This House We Built.” This commitment to their fanbase underscores the community-driven ethos that has fuelled their journey.
This House We Built is comprised of Scott Wardell on vocals and guitar, Andy Jackson on guitars and vocals, Chris Mayes on drums and vocals, and Wayne Dowkes-White on bass. Their collective efforts promise a sophomore release that builds upon their distinctive sound and growing reputation within the rock scene.
