Seattle-based black n’ thrash n’ roll outfit Rotgut have unleashed a new music video for the track “Bonemelter”. The song is taken from the band’s recently released debut EP, 24 oz. Cantrip.
The video is a chaotic montage, featuring clips from a wide array of b-horror movies, paying homage to the schlock and gore of the genre. It also serves as a tribute to the late Scott Spiegel and his film, Intruder. The classic films featured in the video include:
- Auntie Lee’s Meat Pies
- Evil Laugh
- Microwave Massacre
- Rabid Grannies
- Tromeo & Juliet
The 24 oz. Cantrip EP features five tracks of what the band describes as “booze-soaked thrash fury infused with the unholy union of punk attitude and blackened aggression”. The release is available to stream now and can also be purchased as a limited-edition VHS-style cassette.
Along with the video, the band has shared the strange, official story behind the EP. The tale begins with a horned figure in a musty cellar attempting to summon Nyarlathotep, the Crawling Chaos, through an incantation. However, the ritual goes awry, and instead of the Crawling Chaos, a spiralling portal spews forth two “bumbling homunculi”. The chaotic scene, fuelled by cheap beer and whiskey, ends when hulking, hazmat-suited figures burst in and tase the three creatures into unconsciousness, an event now known as ROTGUT’s ill-fated 24 oz. Cantrip.
According to their biography, the band was assembled against their will by a faceless shadow organization in the winter of 2024. The three members, designated FD, C19, and AX, escaped their concrete prison, bound by the purpose of forming an extreme metal band inspired by crust punk, rock ’n’ roll, and classic schlock.
