Extreme metal pioneers Soulfly have dropped a new single, “Nihilist”, featuring Todd Jones of Nails, along with a music video. The track is the latest teaser from the band’s thirteenth album, Chama, which is set for release on October 24, 2025, via Nuclear Blast Records.
“Nihilist” is a testament to raw aggression and a continuation of the Cavalera family legacy. It showcases Max Cavalera’s signature slamming yet rhythmic riffs, enhanced by the evolving role of his son, Zyon Cavalera, as a producer. The track injects a modern, vital sonic assault into the band’s hallmark sound.
Max Cavalera stated that the song and its lyrics are inspired by the late LG of Entombed and Nihilist. “He left this earth in 2021 and he was always a big influence on me,” Max commented. “This is one of the heaviest songs on the record and I love the fact that we went to Bulgaria to make the video. Todd Jones is the special guest on the song, delivering the hardest line on the record: ‘I don’t believe in anything!’”
Guitarist Mike De Leon also weighed in, saying: “From the depths of the deepest tribes, we bring you the new Soulfly. This being my first official video ever with the guys, is a complete honour. Enjoy it, crank it up and start the living room mosh pits!” The music video for “Nihilist” was directed by Costin Chioreanu.
The album, Chama (which literally translates to ‘Flame’ in Portuguese), was recorded at Platinum Underground Studio in Mesa, Arizona, by John Aquilino. It was produced by Zyon Cavalera and Arthur Rizk, with Rizk also responsible for the mixing and mastering. The album features Igor Amadeus Cavalera on bass and Mike De Leon on guitar, with a guest appearance by Dino Cazares (Fear Factory) on one of the tracks. The album artwork was created by Carletta Parrish.
