Bowling For Soup unveil new single “Holding On To That Hate” ahead of massive UK show

Pop-punk icons Bowling For Soup have returned with their first piece of original music in over three years, the brand new single “Holding On To That Hate”. The track is also the first new original song from the band since the release of their acclaimed 2022 album, Pop Drunk Snot Bread.

The Denton, Texas natives deliver their signature blend of infectious pop-punk, mixing self-deprecating humour and charm with a message about moving on and embracing positivity. “Holding On To That Hate” is set to become a firm fan favourite, appealing to both long-time devotees and newer listeners.

Speaking on the song’s creation, frontman Jaret Reddick explained:

Sometimes a song just comes out of nowhere. This is certainly one of them! [Bassist] Rob [Felicetti] sent me the music and a melody idea. This whole process is new to me, but it worked for a few songs on Pop Drunk Snot Bread, and I love that Rob wants to be involved in the writing. First listen, and I realised I had woken up in the middle of the night, just a few hours before hearing this, and written down lyrics that fit perfectly! I mean it was crazy. Took me 5 minutes to piece it together and I cut a demo and sent it to Rob. I love when stuff just happens like that. Especially when the result is an absolute banger!

The recording of the single was a collaboration with Solid State Logic (SSL), utilising their brand new Revival 4000 Channel Strips. The band has a long history with SSL gear; their breakthrough hit “Girl All The Bad Guys Want” was mixed on an SSL 4000 console by Tom Lord-Alge. Working with the new Revival 4000 has given the new single a classic pop-punk tone with a modern edge.

A statement from the SSL team highlights the successful partnership:

The Revival 4000 brings back the classic sound from SL4000B and E consoles. What better way to test that than by combining Dan Malsch’s engineering expertise and deep knowledge of the SSL 4000 with Jared, Rob, and Gary’s songwriting prowess? To that end, we got together at Soundmine Studios for a two-day marathon, the result of which is a brand new Bowling For Soup single. It’s an honour to have been part of ‘Holding On To That Hate’s production process.

Alongside the new single, Bowling For Soup are preparing to release a new live album, A Hangover You Definitely Deserve (Live), on October 24th through Brando / Que-So Records. This album celebrates the 20th anniversary of their much-loved A Hangover You Don’t Deserve record, capturing the energy of their massive UK arena tour from earlier this year. Pre-save that bad boy now.

Fans can get a taste of the live album now with the previously released live videos for “A-Hole” (featuring John James Ryan of Keep Flying on saxophone) and “Ridiculous” (featuring Matthew Milligan from Wheatus on keyboard).

The band’s biggest ever UK headline show is fast approaching:

  • 13 December 2025: London, OVO Arena Wembley
