Inspired by the 90’s grunge subculture, Los Angeles based Love Ghost successfully pays tribute to the most influential genre of alternative rock, while creating a unique and modern sound. Produced by Eric Lilavois (Saint Motel, Surfer Blood), the track and video entitled “Scarlet Letter” touches on violist Mya Greene’s misdiagnosis of autism, featuring an award-winning actress.
Greene reveals:
The lyrics to this song were inspired by a personal experience which I felt reflected a current trend and deserved social commentary. This experience was the degrading, devastating, and humiliating experience of receiving and living with a misdiagnosis of having autism while growing up, which drastically altered my educational path, as well as the expectations of those closest to me regarding my ability to ultimately acquire independence, and opened the floodgates for lots of stigmatization.
I was mis-diagnosed as being Autistic when I was a child. These lyrics and the accompanying video are meant to encompass the emotional roller coaster of receiving and losing a heavily stigmatized label.
Having grown up together, the four-piece are able to poignantly express both the hardships and joys of suburban teenage culture within their music. Formed by 16-year-old frontman Finn Bell who demonstrates a maturity beyond his years with his soulful lyrics and arrangements. Despite the band all being teenagers, their raw musical skill creates a nostalgic triumph of distorted guitar melodies, heavy drums and emotionally stimulated lyrics. Love Ghost’s musical composition is inspired by a mix of old universal horror films meshed with iconic grunge artists such as Nirvana and Alice in Chains.
