Classic Cover: Jay Buchanan – “Changes” (original by Black Sabbath) plus upcoming tour dates

Jay Buchanan, powerhouse frontman of blues-rock titans Rival Sons, has unveiled a heartbreaking rendition of the classic Black Sabbath anthem “Changes” – available to stream now. Wielding a dark, western-gothic atmosphere akin to his recently released solo work, the track was originally tracked for a Rolling Stone France session before taking on a deep, personal significance for the vocalist over the past year.

Buchanan spent 18 months on the road with Black Sabbath during their massive The End world tour. This stripped-back homage marks the anniversary of the monumental charity stadium event at Villa Park, serving as a raw celebration of Ozzy Osbourne’s triumphant legacy. “The chorus lyrics in this song, just four short words, are so eloquent to me,” Buchanan shares. “Ozzy became a permanent fixture in my life about ten years ago and the man I witnessed was a man who, against just about all odds, won. I wanted to frame the song in that context—the hero that lived to see his grandchildren and be kissed by the entire world.”

The single lands on digital platforms on 1st July 2026, alongside an exceptionally rare 300-copy 7-inch vinyl release at Fingerprints Records in Long Beach. The release falls in the wake of his critically acclaimed solo album Weapons Of Beauty, which featured his standout single “True Black”. It marks Buchanan’s tenth studio collaboration alongside nine-time Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb, capturing the vocalist’s unvarnished grit and grace away from the stadium scale of his primary band.

To celebrate the release, Buchanan is embarking on an intimate headline acoustic tour across the UK this July. The dates bracket his highly anticipated appearance in Wales, where he joins his bandmates to close out a massive summer weekend. We previously headed up the mountain ourselves to cover the event; check out our festival review of Steelhouse to see what makes the location so special. Support across the UK solo dates comes from London-based acid-folk sister-duo Fire In Her Eyes.
