Lock up your daughters and get the leather jackets out! The Godmother of Punk is finally coming back. Joan Jett And The Blackhearts have officially announced their first UK headline run in 16 years, set to tear through the country this July.
Joan Jett has a long history with the UK, having written and recorded her debut solo LP, Bad Reputation, in London. “It’s been too long since we’ve been in the UK and we’re excited to see everyone!” says Jett. The tour isn’t just a comeback; it’s a celebration of the 45th anniversary of two of the band’s most legendary records, Bad Reputation and I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll. Expect to hear all the big hitters like “I Hate Myself For Loving You” and “Crimson and Clover” delivered with the same grit that saw Jett blow the doors off the boys’ club back in ’79.
Joining them for the ride are Colchester’s own Britpunk duo The Meffs. Fronted by Lily Hopkins, they’ve made a name for themselves with a fierce DIY ethic and politically charged lyrics, making them a cracking fit for a bill topped by a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame legend. We’ve been following the resurgence of classic punk energy lately, and this tour looks set to be the highlight of the summer for anyone who likes their rock ‘n’ roll served raw.
Tickets go on sale this Friday, 24th April, at 10am. Don’t slack on this one. 16 years is a long time to wait, and these shows will likely shift in minutes.
