The Molotovs add second London date and Jonathon Ross appearance after debut album hits Top 3

Things are moving fast for The Molotovs. Following a massive rush for tickets and their debut record, Wasted On Youth, [review here] crashing into the Top 3 of the Official Charts, the band have been forced to add a second night at the O2 Forum Kentish Town. It’s a proper “full circle” moment for siblings Matt and Issey Cartlidge, as the venue is exactly where they played their first-ever gig supporting The Libertines.

The “Welcome To Urbia” tour doesn’t even kick off for another six months, but fans have already snapped up over 10,000 tickets. In Leeds, demand was so high they’ve had to upgrade the venue to the Beckett SU. It’s a hell of a result for a band that built their following the old-fashioned way – by playing over 600 gigs and busking in the rain until Carl Barât spotted them in Margate and invited them on tour.

If you fancy seeing what all the fuss is about from your sofa, the trio are set to appear on The Jonathan Ross Show this Saturday, 21st March. They’ll be performing their anthem “Today’s Gonna Be Our Day”, a track that previously topped the physical singles charts. It’s been a whirlwind year for the group, who have even found time for a bit of friendly chart rivalry with Lily Allen.

Recorded at Marshall Studio with producer Jason Perry and mixed by Blair Crichton of Dead Pony, Wasted On Youth is a sharp burst of indie, punk, and new wave. We’ve been keeping a close eye on these lot for a while now – you can check out our previous coverage of the band and their high-octane live shows right here.
