Melbourne’s favourite guitar-slinging duo, Opal Ocean, are finally bringing their high-energy acoustic show to our shores for the first time this March. If you’ve spent any time on social media over the last few years, you’ve likely seen Alex Champ and Nadav Tabak shredding on the streets of Melbourne—their busking video for “J.A.M.” racked up over 50 million views and turned them into a global sensation.
The timing couldn’t be better, as the lads are dropping their new album, Temple Of The Stars, on 27th February. This latest record is a bit of a milestone for them, being the first one they’ve written and recorded entirely at home while juggling life on the road. It’s expected to be a proper journey through their evolving sound, featuring nine tracks of the kind of “how are only two people making that much noise?” guitar work that has become their trademark.
Since starting out in 2015 with the Terra EP, they’ve shared stages with legends and even collaborated with Dream Theater’s Jordan Rudess on their 2020 record The Hadal Zone. They’ve even got their own signature “Opalburst” guitars from Godin, which tells you everything you need to know about their technical chops. This isn’t just your standard “two blokes with acoustics” set; it’s a full-on percussive, psychedelic experience that hits harder than most four-piece rock bands.
The UK run kicks off in Brighton and weaves its way through Cardiff, London, and Newcastle. One date in Leamington Spa has already sold out, so you’d best get a wiggle on if you want to catch them in these intimate venues before they inevitably head for much bigger stages.
