It wouldn’t be a proper start to the year without the godfathers of grind, Napalm Death, revving up the engine for another ‘Campaign For Musical Destruction’. The Birmingham legends are heading out on the road again, and as always, they are bringing a cracking lineup of noise along for the ride.
The tour kicks off this week in Germany, but for those of us waiting on UK and Irish soil, the chaos arrives in late February. If you’ve never caught one of these tours, you are missing out on a genuine institution of the extreme music calendar. Barney Greenway and the lads seem to have infinite energy, and they are still putting bands half their age to shame with their intensity.
Support for this run comes in the form of New Jersey thrashers Whiplash, UK punk veterans (and D-beat pioneers) The Varukers, and Polish stoner/doom outfit Dopelord. It’s a solid, eclectic bill that covers pretty much every base of “heavy” you could want with a pint in hand. It’s particularly good to see The Varukers on there, keeping that old-school punk spirit alive alongside the grind.
While the band has a massive run of dates across the continent, plus scheduled stops in Japan and the US later in the year, the all-important UK and Ireland leg is what we are focusing on. They wrap up the run with a massive homecoming show in Birmingham, which is guaranteed to be a belter.
You can catch the ‘Campaign For Musical Destruction’ at the following UK and Irish venues:
- 24 Feb – London, Electric Ballroom
- 25 Feb – Glasgow, Clyde Rooms
- 26 Feb – Dublin, The Academy
- 27 Feb – Liverpool, O2 Academy
- 28 Feb – Torquay, Arena
- 01 Mar – Birmingham, O2 Academy
