Kentucky’s favourite sons, Black Stone Cherry, are gearing up for a massive year. The Southern rockers have announced that their new EP, Celebrate, will be hitting the shelves on 6th March via Mascot Records. To whet our appetites, they’ve dropped a brand new track, and it’s a bit of a curveball.
The band have released a cover of the Simple Minds classic “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”. If tackling one of the biggest anthems of the 80s wasn’t enough, they’ve also drafted in their long-time mate Tyler Connolly from Theory of a Deadman to lend a hand on vocals.
Frontman Chris Robertson seems pretty chuffed with how it turned out, noting that as a child of the mid-80s, The Breakfast Club was a staple. “One of my favourite parts of the movie was always the music and specifically ‘Don’t You’!” he says. “So when the chance for us to Black Stone Cherrify the track emerged it was a no brainer. We are beyond excited to share that we enlisted the help of our dear friend Tyler Connolly to help out.”
The upcoming EP, Celebrate, was produced by the band themselves and promises a mix of styles. You’ve got the grunge-tinged “I’m Fine”, the heavier “Deep”, and the title track “Celebrate”, the video for which is already out there imparting some solid life advice. Another track, “Neon Eyes”, features footage from their headline slot at last year’s Maid of Stone festival, giving fans a taster of what the live show is looking like these days.
Speaking of live shows, the lads are heading back over the pond later this year for a massive run of dates. Dubbed the “An Evening With” tour, these aren’t your standard gigs. The band will be playing two sets every night. The first set will see them playing their self-titled debut album in full to mark its 20th anniversary (yes, it really has been that long), while the second set will be packed with the usual hits and cuts from the new EP.
The UK and Ireland leg kicks off in October and runs right through to mid-November, wrapping up with two nights at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town. If you fancy seeing the boys in a slightly more intimate setting than the usual arena runs, get on this.
