Legendary genre-defying British band Alabama 3 are set to hit stages across the UK this December for a five-date tour, which includes a show at London’s O2 Shepherds Bush Empire on the 13th. The tour comes in anticipation of new music, with a new EP expected soon.
Known for their anarchic and celebratory live shows, Alabama 3 have spent nearly 25 years building a devoted following with performances that feel like a Pentecostal meeting in a Manchester warehouse rave. The band, fronted by the flamboyant Robert Spragg (aka Larry Love), blends a unique mix of country, acid house, gospel, electro, blues, and dub. They achieved global recognition when their track “Woke Up This Morning” was chosen as the iconic opening theme for HBO’s The Sopranos, leading to the release of their seminal debut album, Exile on Coldharbour Lane.
Over the last two decades, the band has toured relentlessly, building a fiercely loyal fanbase and cementing their reputation as the ultimate festival band, with a legendary performance at Glastonbury cited as a key moment. They have also received endorsements from cultural icons including Irvine Welsh, Howard Marks, and Stephen King. Their live shows are known for their theatricality, political satire, and communal energy, and the band has never shied away from activism, collaborating with organisations such as the RMT and the Miscarriages of Justice Organisation.
The current lineup features an eclectic mix of musicians, including Nick Reynolds (harmonica, vocals), Orlando Harrison (keyboard), Mark Sams (lead guitar), and Zoe Devlin Love (vocals). Despite the tragic loss of founding member Jake Black (aka Reverend D. Wayne Love) in 2019, the band continues to carry his spirit forward in their performances.
This December, audiences can expect Alabama 3 at their unpredictable, boundary-pushing best, delivering a night of riotous beats, powerful vocals, and raw theatricality.
