Crobot return to their dirty groove roots with new album ‘Supermoon’

The wait is finally over for fans of fuzzed-out riffs and swampy swagger, as the Pennsylvania riff-lords Crobot have officially dropped their latest full-length, Supermoon. Arriving today via Silver Lining Music, the record is being billed as a return to the band’s “dirty groove rock” origins, leaning away from some of the heavier metal leanings of recent years and back into the primordial ooze of funk-infused hard rock.

Recorded between the legendary Pedernales Studio – owned by none other than Willie Nelson – and the Machine Shop in Dripping Springs, the album was apparently born out of a fairly spiritual process. The guys reportedly engaged in moon rites and meditations between takes, with frontman Brandon Yeagley treating his lyrics more like spells than stanzas. Lyrically, it’s a bit of a head-trip, pulling from everything from Taoism to Jungian psychology to explore themes of ego death and rebirth.

To celebrate the launch, the band have also shared a new music video for the track “Foot Off”. It’s exactly what you’d expect from the quartet: thunderous bass lines from Willie Jansen, Nico Jansen’s possessed drumming, and Christopher Bishop’s signature “dirtier than a bar mat” guitar tone. We were big fans of their 2022 effort, Feel This, noting that they are one of the few bands who can make rock and roll feel genuinely dangerous and fun at the same time.

The band reckon this is their most mature and polished songwriting to date, despite the “fuzz-soaked” production. With Supermoon now out in the wild, the guys are sounding leaner and meaner than ever. If you’re looking for a soundtrack to the apocalypse that you can actually dance to, this might just be the one. You can stream the album on all the usual platforms now.
