If you’ve spent any time in the UK’s smaller venues over the last couple of years, chances are you’ve seen a blur of hot pink boilersuits and heard some absolute “ADHD-fuelled” chaos. That’ll be Space Pistol, and the trio are back to kick the doors down again with their brand-new single, “Space Pirate”, landing this Friday, 17th April.
It’s the first bit of new music we’ve had from the lads since their 2024 debut album Leave With Everything made quite the splash. They’ve spent most of that time on the road, leaving behind a trail of sweat-soaked punters and a solid reputation as one of the loudest live acts on the circuit. They even managed to nab a win at Metal 2 the Masses Northants in 2024, which tells you everything you need to know about their upward trajectory. We spoke to them around that time before they appeared at Bloodstock.
The name of the new track actually came from a bit of a classic mix-up. During a live show, Jamie Lenman gave the band a shoutout but mistakenly called them “Space Pirate.” Instead of getting gutted, the guys – Daniel Buckland, Ashley Sainsbury, and Thomas Darby – thought it sounded right and ran with it. Conceptually, it’s a bit deeper than the joke suggests, exploring that tricky line between the freedom of escaping your routine and the reality of just running away from your problems.
Recorded and produced by Dave Draper at The Old Cider Press, “Space Pirate” is Space Pistol at full throttle. It’s got that aggressive, grungy edge fans of Queens Of The Stone Age or Reuben will love, but with a sharper, more evolved production that hints at big things for their second album, which is due later this year.
