Six Feet Under return with new album ‘Next To Die’ – video streaming now

American death metal legends Six Feet Under are back to prove they’ve still got plenty of rot left in the tank. The band have announced their fifteenth studio album, Next To Die, which is set to land on April 24th via Metal Blade Records. It’s the third record since the powerhouse duo of Chris Barnes and Jack Owen reunited back in 2017, and it sounds like they aren’t slowing down one bit.

To give us a taste of the new carnage, the guys have dropped a lyric video for the brand-new single, “Mutilated Corpse In The Woods”. Guitarist Jack Owen shared a cracking story about how the track came to be, mentioning it was sparked by a “Rutilated Quartz” pendant his wife found in an antique store, mixed with a grim true crime show. While the real-life victim survived her ordeal, Owen admits that in his version, things don’t end quite so well for the protagonist.

Next To Die features a dozen tracks and is reportedly split into two distinct sides: “Death” and “Groove.” It’s a move designed to satisfy the old-school headbangers while keeping that signature mid-tempo stomp the band is famous for. Barnes headed back to his old stomping ground, Criteria Recording Studios in Miami, to lay down the vocals, a place where he’s recorded the vast majority of his work over the decades.

Produced by Owen and Barnes and mixed by Mark Lewis, the album is available for pre-order now in a variety of formats. Vinyl collectors are particularly well-catered for, with everything from “Bone Brown Marbled” to “Blood Splatter” variants hitting the shelves. If you missed the previous teaser, you can also check out the visualizer for “Unmistakable Smell Of Death” to get properly warmed up for the full release.
