Shade Of Memories unearths cinematic progressive metal with “Pyramid”

Seattle-based progressive metal force Shade Of Memories has returned with a brand-new single, and it’s a proper epic. Titled “Pyramid”, the track is a masterclass in blending heavy, disciplined musicianship with the kind of cinematic storytelling that’s become a hallmark of the project. Recorded, mixed, and mastered at Delbox Audio Studios, the production is as sharp as you’d expect from a release of this scale.

For those who haven’t caught up with them yet, Shade Of Memories is the brainchild of Jay Pratt. Since founding the project back in 2013, Pratt has been the sole creative driver, handling everything from the intricate guitar work to the complex thematic layers. His debut full-length, Glaciers of Tomorrow, made some serious waves when it dropped in 2021, and “Pyramid” feels like a natural, even more ambitious progression from that sound.

The song itself is a journey, clocking in at over six minutes and packed with shifting dynamics and atmosphere. It stays true to Pratt’s focus on themes of perseverance and transformation, wrapped in a sound that’s both heavy and immersive. If you’re a fan of metal that tells a story and doesn’t mind a bit of grandiosity, this one is right up your street. You can check out the official music video for “Pyramid” over on YouTube now.

It’s always impressive to see what a one-man project can achieve when the vision is this clear. We’ll be keeping a close eye on what Jay has planned next. Hopefully, it won’t be another long wait before we get a full record to sink our teeth into.
