Leeds-based noise-rock titans The Shits have officially unleashed their latest long-player, Diet of Worms, via Rocket Recordings. Arriving today, 3rd April 2026, the record follows their previous Rocket release You’re a Mess with an even more single-minded and remorseless approach to the genre.
The album is a primal feast of noise-rock and hardcore, boiled down to its grittiest essence. Drawing comparisons to the nihilism of the Stooges and the uncompromising hostility of Brainbombs, Diet of Worms uses repetition and tortured vocals as blunt instruments. It’s the kind of record that feels like a bad-trip realm of the vivid and nightmarish, forcibly removing psychedelia from its comfort zone.
To celebrate the release, the band have shared a video for the new single “Thank You For Being A Friend”. Vocalist Callum Howe notes that the track captures the band’s relentless drive: “The Shits are driving down the sleazy streets of West Yorkshire. Nothing to do, nowhere to go. You can’t stop us, we do this cos we love it.”
Critics are already lining up to praise the filth. Therapy? frontman Andy Cairns described it as “restless, exciting music that feels so very alive,” while The Quietus noted it as “a very good album with more depth than it lets on.” Whether it’s the pulverising garage riffs of “Then You’re Dead” or the “Creedence-in-hell” swagger of “Change My Ways”, this is a record that demands full immersion.
