Glasgow’s Pyroclast drop heavy new single “Break the Tide”

Local Glasgow metal outfit Pyroclast have just released their latest single, “Break the Tide”, and it’s a bit of a belter. This is the third track we’ve seen from their upcoming full-length album, following on from the punchy “Pyroclast” and the more atmospheric “Brought by a Flame.”

While their previous releases had more of an anthemic or cinematic feel, “Break the Tide” gets a bit more personal. The song dives into the heavy topic of social oppression and the mental toll of being told you’re worth nothing. It’s about how those outside voices can mess with your head over the years and the effort it takes to finally tell them to sod off and find your own identity.

Musically, it’s built on some cracking driving rhythms and layered guitars. The chorus actually changes as the song goes on – starting out sounding a bit hesitant and fearful, but by the end, it’s full of resolve. Vocalist Mark Reid says the track is about the voices people carry inside them that aren’t actually true, and the moment they finally realise that.

The lads have also put out a proper video to go with it, filmed and directed by Liam Lockhart. It’s a stark bit of film that really captures the struggle and the eventual release mentioned in the lyrics. The band are keeping busy, with the full album expected later in 2026 and a few festival slots in the pipeline. We’ve kept a close eye on the local scene for a while now, and it’s great to see Pyroclast continuing to carve out their own sound without worrying too much about sticking to a specific sub-genre.
