Swedish melodic metal powerhouse Tungsten have shared a brand-new single and music video, “The North Will Rise”, featuring a very special guest appearance from Sonata Arctica frontman Tony Kakko. The track is an anthemic “toast to the north,” blending the band’s signature modern heavy metal sound with Kakko’s unmistakable vocal melodies.
The collaboration is a natural fit for the band, which features legendary drummer Anders Johansson (ex-HammerFall, Yngwie Malmsteen) alongside his sons Karl and Nick. Lead singer Mike Andersson noted that their voices fit “perfectly together,” creating a unifying hymn for the Nordic lands. Tony Kakko was equally enthusiastic, describing the track as “catchy like the cold in January on a Viking ship!” You can check out the epic new video at the bottom of this article, or stream the single from all the usual places.
Tungsten have been on a relentless upward trajectory since their 2019 debut We Will Rise. This new single follows their 2024 album The Grand Inferno and another recent track, “Bite My Tongue,” suggesting that a full new record might be on the horizon. The band has already built a formidable live reputation on the European circuit, having toured with the likes of Firewind and Bloodbound.
While there are no UK dates confirmed for this specific run just yet, the band is set for a busy festival season in 2026, including a confirmed appearance at Germany’s RockHarz Festival in July. We’ll be keeping our ears to the ground for any news of a return to British soil.
