Detroit newcomers Tidals are hitting the ground running with their latest track, “When Heroes Speak”. Formed just last year, the band is already making waves with a sound that’s as massive as it is hard to pin down, blending heavy metal grit with melodic rock and a hint of alternative edge.
The new single is a proper anthem, built for the kind of big rooms the band clearly has their sights on. It starts with a bit of a slow-burn atmosphere before kicking into gear with a wall of guitars and some seriously commanding vocals. While the music itself is a belter, there’s a deeper message tucked away in the lyrics. The track takes a swipe at the way powerful entities manipulate the masses for their own ends, leaving the rest of us to deal with the fallout.
Speaking about the track, the band shared that the theme focuses on how the majority of the population is often led astray by those with “nefarious intentions.” It’s a call for resilience and a tribute to those who actually step up to lead when things get grim, rather than just following the script.
Coming out of the Motor City, Tidals features some familiar faces from the local scene. Founded by Mark Clifford, Jeff Cribbs, and Dave Martinez – formerly of Chronic Groove and Camp Element – the group brings a wealth of experience to the table. They’ve already been busy on the live circuit, bringing an energy that feels both seasoned and raw.
If you’re into cinematic rock that actually has something to say, “When Heroes Speak” is well worth a spin. It’s a solid step forward for a band that seems determined to challenge the status quo while keeping the riffs heavy.
While the band are still relatively fresh on the scene, we’re always keeping an eye on the Detroit export market. You can check out some of our other recent coverage of heavy hitters from across the pond, like our review of Great American Ghost in Glasgow.
