The wait is over for fans of the weird and wonderful. Dark cabaret metal outfit Tardigrade Inferno have officially dropped their latest studio offering, Hush. If you’re into music that sounds like a circus tent catching fire in the middle of a graveyard, this one is right up your street.
The new record follows on from 2023’s Burn the Circus, and the band haven’t lost any of that theatrical spark. The album kicks off with the sound of a Big Top smouldering away, while a lone radio plays a mournful tune before the band blasts back into life. It’s a bit like a phoenix rising from the ashes, only with more face paint and heavy riffs.
Vocalist Darya Rorria is on top form here, using her impressive range to tell stories that are definitely not for the faint of heart. She flits between sharp teasing and tragic whispers, backed by some seriously retro-futuristic keyboards that wouldn’t feel out of place in a classic horror flick. The rest of the lads – Alexander Pavlovich on guitars, Maxim Belekhov on bass, and Andrew Drew on drums – provide a crushing backdrop that balances studio polish with the raw energy they’re known for on stage.
The band have also mixed things up with the artwork this time around. Painted in oils by artist Milena Kress, the cover for Hush is their first to ditch their famous mascot, the Tardigrade. According to the band, it’s a bit of a “coming-of-age” moment, suggesting the toys have been left in the nursery as they move into darker, more emotional territory.
If you want to wrap your ears around it, Hush is out now on CD, digital, and four different vinyl versions. You can also find it streaming on the usual spots like Spotify and YouTube.
