If you like your metal served with a side of classic Italian horror and a healthy dose of blasphemy, then you’ll want to mark 12th June in your calendar. Spanish thrash/speed veterans Estertor have confirmed that their third full-length outing, Evil Black Church, is set for worldwide release via the Swedish label Black Lion Records.
The Barcelona-based crew aren’t exactly newcomers, having formed back in 2016 from a pool of seasoned musicians who’ve done time in the likes of Decapitated Christ and Onirophagus. This time around, the guys have leaned heavily into their love for the silver screen’s darker side. Evil Black Church is a concept album inspired by the eerie atmosphere of cult Italian horror flicks like Demons, Black Sunday, and From Beyond. Expect plenty of lyrical nods to the devil and all things cinematic and evil.
Sonically, the band are promising something a bit wilder than their previous efforts. While the foundation is firmly rooted in old-school thrash, they’ve seasoned the mix with raw heavy metal and touches of death metal. If you’re a fan of the primitive blackened thrash of Bathory or Celtic Frost, or the crushing riffs of Obituary, this should be right up your street. The macabre artwork was handled by the talented María Panizo (Altar of Worms), perfectly capturing the record’s grim vibe.
