As the sun starts to set on a legendary four-decade career, Brazilian icons Sepultura are making sure they go out with a bang rather than a whimper. Following the announcement of their final ever release, The Cloud of Unknowing EP, the band have just dropped a brand new single titled “Beyond the Dream”.
The track sees the band ticking off a long-held ambition to tackle a ballad, but in true Sepultura style, it’s not exactly a “power ballad” in the 80s sense. They’ve teamed up with Sérgio Britto and Tony Bellotto from the legendary Brazilian rock outfit Titãs to bring it to life. If those names sound familiar, it’s because they wrote “Polícia” – a track Sepultura have been smashing out live for years.
The band describe the new tune as a “poetic reflection” on their massive journey since 1984. It’s definitely a more melodic side to the guys, but it still feels like Sepultura through and through. We’ve chatted with Derrick Green a few times over the years, and it’s clear that even as they approach the finish line, they aren’t interested in just coasting on their old hits.
The Cloud of Unknowing is set to arrive on 24th April and features four tracks that the band say showcase the full spectrum of their creativity. It’ll be available on some pretty swanky-looking vinyl variants too, including Oxblood and Transparent Petrol. If you’re a collector, you’ll want to get your pre-orders in quickly.
The full tracklist for the EP is:
- “All Souls Rising”
- “Beyond the Dream”
- “Sacred Books”
- “The Place”
Of course, the big news is still the “Celebrating Life Through Death” farewell tour. If you haven’t caught them yet, this really is your last shout. The UK and Ireland dates are as follows:
- 7th August – Bloodstock Festival, Derbyshire
- 9th August – 3Arena, Dublin
