Polish death metal veterans Sacriversum have been busy lately. After originally forming way back in 1992 in Łódź, the band made a name for themselves by mixing old-school death metal with atmospheric, progressive touches. If you’re a fan of that classic era where bands like Pestilence, Death, and Gorefest were pushing the envelope, then these guys should definitely be on your radar.
The band has just unleashed their second single and music video, “March Of The Giants”, taken from their upcoming record Before the Birth of Light. The track has a real unstoppable feel to it, which the band says is entirely intentional. They reckon the rhythmic stomp of the song is a bit like those epic Bathory tracks, conjuring up images of a heavily armed army flattening everything in its way. It’s not just about warfare, though; it’s about that feeling of getting your mates together and being completely driven to reach a goal. Once that momentum starts, nothing is going to stand in your way.
What makes Sacriversum stand out from the usual death metal crowd is their use of Hammond organs. It’s a proper “Death meets Deep Purple” vibe that works surprisingly well. If you’ve been spinning the latest Blood Incantation album recently, you’ll likely find plenty to love here as they blend tradition with a bit of sci-fi flair. It’s dark, heavy, and a bit of a trip into another dimension.
Before the Birth of Light is set to drop on 8th May via Fireflash Records. We’ve been keeping an eye on the label lately, especially after they signed German metallers Generation Steel earlier this year. You can grab the new Sacriversum album on CD, limited vinyl (only 300 copies, so don’t hang about), or digital formats.
