Mental health support with a side of riffs: Heavy Metal Therapy announce new support meetings in Glasgow

The legends over at Heavy Metal Therapy have just announced a fresh round of fundraising to keep their vital support services running for the rock and metal community. If you aren’t familiar with their work, they’re a community project that uses our favourite heavy tunes to help folks deal with mental health challenges. It’s about as far from a “clinical” hospital room as you can get, focusing instead on the catharsis and connection we all find in a mosh pit.

The project is a registered CIC (Community Interest Company) and has run successful peer groups across the country throughout 2024 and 2025. There’s a new group starting in Glasgow at Bird and Blend, 215 Byres Road G12 8UD from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The first meeting will be on Wendesday 25th March, and then on the last Wednesday of every month. No need to sign up. Just turn up, grab a seat and a cuppa and join in.

We’ve been big supporters of what they do for years. We spoke to Matt a while back about how the project got started and the importance of community – you can watch the full interview here. It’s proof that the metal community really does look out for its own, especially when things get a bit dark.

Whether you’re looking to grab a new shirt or want to get involved in some of the upcoming events, heading over to their site is the best way to show some love. In a world that can be a bit much sometimes, it’s good to know there’s a community that understands the healing power of a well-placed breakdown.
