Indian technical death metal outfit Virodh unleash ‘Harvest of Desolation’

India’s technical death metal scene has just received a serious jolt as Virodh have officially dropped their new album, Harvest of Desolation. Released today, 6th March, via Erymanthian Records, this record brings a proper old-school morbid stink to the technical side of the genre, refusing to smooth down the edges for anyone.

What started as a one-man project by Sourav Koer in Assam has grown into a full-force quartet. With Pranaw Chhetri on drums, Rudra Sharma handling the vocals, and Arun Nataranjan on bass, the band has evolved into a tight unit that knows exactly how to balance complexity with blunt force. We’ve been keeping an eye on these lads lately, and they’re definitely a name to watch as the scene in India continues to throw up some absolute gems – check out our previous coverage of the band here.

Harvest of Desolation is a tense listen, full of dissonant bites and tracks that jump from atmospheric builds to high-speed burns. Lyrically, the band isn’t interested in typical fantasy tropes; instead, they dig into the grit of societal unrest, financial collapse, and the “machinery of dystrophy.” Tracks like “Kafkaesque” and “Great Depression” hammer home a theme of bureaucratic rot that’s as heavy as the riffs themselves.

The album is available now on CD and digital formats, and it’s definitely one that demands to be played loud. If you like your death metal fast, technical, and a little bit uncomfortable, this is a belter.
